This Simple Team Culture Shift Could Save Your Business

Today, I’m pulling back the curtain on one of the most powerful secrets behind lasting business success – and it has absolutely NOTHING to do with fancy tech or marketing hacks. I’m talking about team culture, the core values that truly make or break your business. Before you click away, ask yourself: Have you got the right team on your side?

I’m Kevin Brittain, your barefoot Runpreneur, currently running beyond Day 1,744 and on a mission for 4,292+ days, 40,075km, and £1,000,000 raised for children’s causes. My daily run vlogs aren’t just about sweat and miles—they’re about transforming lives, starting with YOURS and your team’s. Let’s unlock this together.

Why Your Team Isn’t Working (And It’s Not What You Think)

Let's get honest. As a manager or a leader, you’ve probably felt that pain: things just aren’t clicking, even when everyone is technically “doing their job.” Maybe morale is low, or there’s friction that just won’t go away. Here’s the blunt truth from my own journey: Skills aren’t enough. Character counts for more.

I’ve employed HUNDREDS of people over the years, and do you know the single greatest factor that separates winning teams from dysfunctional ones? Shared core values. You can have the most talented individual on paper—but if they aren’t the right fit for your company culture, disaster is lurking around the corner.

The 12 Commandments That Saved My Business

A few days ago, I spoke about the “rules of engagement” that govern our business—the 12 Core Values, or as I like to call them, our “12 Commandments.” These aren’t just posters on the wall. They are the heartbeat of our team.

If you’ve not set these up in your business yet, don’t panic. AI tools like ChatGPT can help you brainstorm, but what matters is that you OWN and LIVE them. These rules don’t just keep things ticking when times are good; they’re your insurance policy when times are tough.

Here’s What We Do:

  • Every quarter, we score each team member against our core values.

  • Two points if they consistently live the value, one if it’s hit-or-miss, zero if it’s missing in action.

  • Score below 75%? We help you improve. Still not hitting the mark? We let you go—with compassion, but also with clarity.

Sounds ruthless? It’s actually about protecting those who SHOW UP every day for your mission. And once you build that united front, your business will feel unstoppable.

How Core Values Drive Success (And Save Lives Together)

Look, I know this isn’t easy. Telling someone they’re not the right fit hurts. But keeping a “bad apple” hurts your whole team’s morale, drags down results, and makes your culture volatile.

You owe it to yourself—and to those who DO live your values—to keep your culture strong. The right people will stick. The wrong ones will sort themselves out.

As I lace up my barefoot trainers for another day of the Runpreneur challenge, I ask myself: Am I leading by example? Am I pulling my team together with shared values and a common mission? If I slip, I see it in my run, my team, my cause—and so will you.

Challenge for YOU: Set One Core Value Today

If you scrolled this far, here’s my challenge: Write down ONE core value you want your team to live by. Share it in the comments, or message me directly. Start the process now—because your business, your wellbeing, and even the children we’re striving to help depend on leaders who build cultures worth belonging to.

And if you believe in what I’m doing—running around the world barefoot, vlogging every single day to save children’s lives—smash that subscribe, share, like, and help me hit the £1,000,000 goal. Every click could mean another child’s life saved.

Stay positive. Stay happy. And remember: the right team, with the right values, can change the world (and save it, one child at a time).

I’ll see you tomorrow. Keep running with me—every step counts.
