The True Cost of Health:
An Investment Worth Making
Hello, everyone! Today, I want to talk about a topic that's deeply personal and highly relevant to every one of us: the price or cost of our health. This isn't just about money; it's about understanding what's truly invaluable in our lives. Stay tuned to hear my thoughts and experiences on this matter.
The Mission Behind the Running
Firstly, I must remind you about the journey I'm on. We're now on consecutive day 1,550 of my quest to save children's lives by attempting the ultimate ultra marathon of run vlogging every single day, covering the distance of a lap around the world, all done barefoot. If you resonate with my mission, which aims to raise funds and awareness, please subscribe, share, like, and comment on my content. The more people we reach, the more lives we can save. Your support means everything.
The Perception versus Reality of Health Costs
The core of today's discussion revolves around people's perception of the cost of health compared to its true value. Most of us only start appreciating our health when it's already compromised. It's a cruel irony that we often take our well-being for granted until we face health issues that cause discomfort or even threaten our lives.
For example, I'm about to embark on a new journey with the Zoe app service. If you're from the UK, you might be familiar with it due to its promotion by many celebrity influencers. The Zoe app is a scientific, nutrition-based service that offers bespoke tests tailored to your body. These include measurements of blood sugar levels, gut microbiotics, and various other vital metrics. Once completed, the app provides personalized results that help identify which foods are good or bad for you, all based on your body's unique genetic makeup.
The Zoe App Experience
Now, let's talk specifics. The Zoe service involves a series of tests where you send samples away, and the results come back with personalized recommendations. This is similar to what you might get from a blood test at the doctor’s office but goes a step further. It looks at how your body processes different foods, identifying intolerances you might never have been aware of.
For instance, bananas are generally considered a healthy food. However, many people have intolerances to bananas, which can cause more harm than good for their bodies. Such insights are invaluable and can only be derived through detailed testing like what Zoe offers.
I’ve been a pescetarian for about three and a half years, eliminating meat because it made me feel sluggish. While this dietary change has served me well, I've realised that my body's nutritional needs might be different from what I assumed. The Zoe app can provide the critical data I need to refine my diet further, helping me understand what truly enhances my health.
The Investment in Health
The cost of the Zoe service isn't trivial—£300 for the initial tests and £25 per month for the subscription. But what price do you put on your health? This investment is relatively minor when considering the long-term benefits. We frequently spend substantial amounts on holidays, cars, clothing, and other material things. Yet, most people hesitate to invest in their health in the same way.
Imagine if this service could extend your life expectancy or significantly improve your quality of life. Even a minor 0.1% improvement in your health can accumulate over years to make a substantial difference. That's why, to me, the expense is worthwhile.
Why Prevention is Better Than Cure
Prevention, rather than cure, should be our focus. While I don't have any long-term health-related issues now, I've had scares in the past. Being proactive about my health through services like Zoe means I'm taking preventive measures to maintain and possibly even enhance my well-being.
However, it's alarming how many people prioritize material possessions over their health. Often, they only realize the true value of health when it's too late to make significant changes.
Final Thoughts
So, the takeaway here is that the cost or price of health is invaluable. If you have the means to invest in services that can improve your health, why wouldn’t you? Sacrifice something less important, and prioritize your well-being.
If you have any questions or comments, feel free to drop me a line. And remember, if you believe in my mission to save children's lives through my ultimate ultramarathon journey, please subscribe, share, like, and comment. The more people we reach, the more children's lives we can save.
