The Importance of Testing New Equipment:
A Lesson Learnt - Ep1545
Hello, everyone!
Today, I want to talk about a crucial topic: the importance of testing your new equipment before diving in headfirst. I'm sure many of you have experienced the thrill of purchasing something brand-new, whether it's software, a system, or even running gear, and being so eager to use it that you skip the testing phase. Well, I'm here to share my personal experience and to highlight
For those who are new to my journey, welcome! I’m on mission consecutive day 1545 of saving children's lives by attempting the ultimate ultra-marathon: run-vlogging barefoot around the globe. If you find my content useful or inspiring, please subscribe, share, like, and comment. The more people we reach, the more money we raise, and ultimately, the more children's lives we can save. That's the core reason I do this every single day.
Now, onto my recent adventure—or should I say mishap—with new equipment. I've upgraded pretty much everything: a new camera, a new heart rate monitor, and a new microphone, all in an effort to produce the highest quality content for you. The irony is, despite being an upgraded version of what I previously used, the new equipment caused quite a bit of chaos.
I assumed it would work seamlessly, just like the old kit did, but how wrong I was! I spent several days recording my episodes, thinking all was going well. However, when I proudly tried to show a friend the quality of my new setup, I hit a snag. The visual quality was exceptional—no complaints there—but the audio was a disaster. My old Lavalier mic, which worked perfectly with my previous setup, was incompatible with the new equipment. The result? A distorted, scratching sound instead of clear audio.
This hiccough turned out to be a massive setback. I lost ten episodes due to the audio issues, which means I'm now in the process of re-recording those along with my current episodes. Yes, you heard it right—two episodes a day for the next ten days to catch up!
Ultimately, this experience has taught me the very vital lesson of not making assumptions and always taking the time to thoroughly test new equipment. It’s better to spot these issues beforehand rather than after investing considerable time and effort.
So, there you have it. Always test new gear and systems, no matter how upgraded or intuitive they may seem. This saves not only time but also prevents frustration and ensures the quality you aim to deliver.
Thank you for your continued support and for following my journey. Let’s keep pushing our limits and working together for a better world.
Until next time,
Kevin Brittain
