In today's fast-paced world, finding time for those who mean the most to us can easily get pushed aside. In episode 1761 of the Runpreneur Diary, I discuss the profound importance of spending intentional, quality time with our loved ones and offers heartfelt, practical advice for even the busiest among us.
Balancing big dreams—like running 40,075km, aiming for 4,292 consecutive daily run vlogs, and striving to raise £1,000,000 for children’s causes—it's easy to let family time slip down the priority list. But here’s my wake-up call, and maybe it should be yours too:
The stuff you’ll look back on isn’t the late-night emails or packed diaries—it’s those rare, unforgettable moments with the ones you love.
The proof? Today, I’m buzzing with excitement—not just for the miles I’ll clock up, but because I’m off to a rock concert with my 10-year-old. We’re both mega fans of The Darkness, and this isn’t just another 'dad duty'. It’s genuine, eagerly-anticipated, out-of-the-ordinary quality time.
Sure, we all spend plenty of routine time with our families—school runs, footie matches, and those sofa evenings. But how often do we break out of that comfort zone? When did you last get really excited about a shared experience? That's the magic I’m talking about.
Quality doesn’t mean expensive, extravagant, or rare. It means different and intentional. Some ideas:
Surprise them! Go for a long walk, kick a ball around, or just do something new together.
Let them lead. Ask your loved one what they want to do, and make it happen—even if it’s as simple as their choice of takeaway.
Be present. Ditch the phone, forget the chores for an hour, and immerse yourself at the moment.
It’s not missing a PB or a business milestone. Trust me—when things suddenly change, it’s not finding time for those important shared memories that stings the most.
I’m committed to making quality time a core training session on my ultramarathon mission. Will you join me? Carve it out. Lock it in. Do it now—before life gets in the way.
Let’s not just run for children’s causes; let’s lead by example for our own. And if you believe in this mission to save and enrich children’s lives, hit subscribe, share this post, and join my journey to raise £1,000,000.
Stay positive, stay happy,
