Are you searching for the most accessible ultramarathon in the UK, a family-friendly adventure AND a challenge that could help save children's lives? Stop scrolling – I’ve just run the exact 5K loop of the Over Running Festival in Cambridgeshire, and I’m inviting you to sign up for the next event that’s changing the game for runners of all levels!
Welcome back to the Runpreneur Challenge diary, day 1839, where I am not just running–I’m running with purpose. My mission? Take the Runpreneur Challenge beyond day 4,292, conquer 40,075km (a lap of the world), and raise £1,000,000 for children’s causes. And the Over Running Festival is YOUR chance to join me in the fight, one loop, one life saved at a time.
What Makes the Over Running Festival Different?
Running isn’t just miles on foot – it’s community, causes, and making memories. This unique 24hr festival features:
5K Loop Format: As many as you can in 24hrs – walk, jog, run, or race!
Ultra Inclusive: Achieve your first ultra by completing just 50K (ten laps) over 24 hours.
Community Hub Start/Finish: The Over Community Centre is buzzing with kids, families, BBQs, refreshments, and full facilities (showers, toilets, secure storage, a bar – yes, really!).
Safety & Support: Marshall's dotted at every crossing, loads of supporters cheering and waving, kids handing out high-fives – I felt buoyed by every lap.
The Route: Scenic, Safe, and Surprisingly Diverse
Wondering what the route really looks like? Here's my experience, step-by-step:
Start: At the Over Community Centre rec, surrounded by football, locals, laughter.
Village Vibes: First lap takes you through quiet roads, past health professionals and my own supportive family (cheers Maya & James!).
Crossings: Minimal road crossings, all marshalled for safety during busy times.
Churchyard Serenity: Escape onto tranquil pavements, weave through beautiful church grounds – a peaceful breath in the midst of action.
Country Challenge: Quiet country lanes, the odd tractor, fields shimmering in the June sun, and even a friendly cow or two.
Dog Walkers & Locals: Watch out for dogs, but enjoy the community vibe. Always greeted with a wave or a smile.
Back Into The Village: Glide past ponds, willow trees, charming houses and kids leaving school, cheering you on.
Tips from My Ultramarathon Survival Kit:
Hydration: The heat hit near 30°C, so electrolytes and water are vital.
Hayfever & Midges: Stock up on antihistamines, especially in rural Cambridgeshire!
Shoes: Road trainers are perfect – don’t bother with trail shoes.
Night Laps: Bring a head torch and buddy up for those midnight miles.
Why YOU Should Sign Up
Whether you’re aiming for one lap, five laps, or the full ultra 50K+, the Over Running Festival is built for every runner. Ultra-running veterans and complete beginners found the loop welcoming, safe, and never boring! And with the event growing (we doubled our numbers in year two!), expect even more support, energy, and celebration in 2026.
Plus, every step helps me edge closer to that £1,000,000 fundraising goal for children’s causes. This is more than a run – it’s a mission. The more people on the course, the more lives we save.
Stay positive, stay happy, and happy running!
