Today I’ve logged my 1,901st consecutive day of running. But let’s be real there have been days when dragging myself out the door felt impossible. Rain, minus 3 degrees, illnesses, injuries, and, yes, the absolute lows of motivation. Yet here I am, still going, on a mission not only to circle the globe (that’s 40,075km!) but to raise £1,000,000 for children's causes and I want you along for the ride.
Why? Because every step counts. For me. For you. For every child we can save.
Struggling with Motivation? Let’s Play a Game – Literally!
Motivation is a rollercoaster, especially across a nearly five-and-a-half-year streak. I get it some days, you just don’t feel like running. So, how do you keep showing up, day after day?
My secret weapon: Gamification.
Gamification isn’t just ticking boxes or collecting medals. It’s turning your journey into a game scoring points, chasing milestones, challenging yourself with ‘levels’ that make it FUN. This isn’t only for ultra-marathoners. Whether you’re starting out or smashing your own records, gamifying your running journey is a game-changer.
Here’s How I Gamify My Running (And How You Can Too)
Countdown to Milestones: Right now, I’m fixated on the countdown to Day 2,000 which I’ll hit in late November. Hitting big numbers? Makes every run exciting.
Catch-Up with the Calendar: I’m also racing the years. By the end of December, I’ll have run more consecutive days than the year we’re in: 2,025 days by the end of 2025. It might sound quirky, but this race against time is the kind of personal challenge that fuels my fire.
Scoring Your Streak: Have you tried tracking streaks, weekly mileage, or running in all weather? Set your scoreboards every win boosts that willpower.
Pro tip: The worst part is always getting out of the house. When gamification is in play, that ‘just one more point’ feeling can be the nudge you need.
The Bigger Picture: Why This Really Matters
Every single run in my diary is part of a much larger mission, the Runpreneur Challenge. I’ve set my sights beyond day 4,292, a distance of 40,075km, and a fundraising goal of £1,000,000 for children’s causes. Every time I gamify a tough day, I know I’m not just winning at running, I'm helping save lives.
And here’s where YOU come in.
Whether you’re setting your own streak, sharing this message, or supporting the cause directly, every action takes us closer to that million.
More eyes = more support = more lives saved. That’s why I’m out here, every single day.
