Leo's First Step Into the Working World: A Proud Parent's Perspective
Have you ever witnessed a life-changing moment for your child? Well, today I shared one such milestone with my eldest son, Leo, as he gears up for his first job interview. It's an exhilarating moment for both of us, and I can't wait to see what this new chapter holds for him.
Welcome back to my journey on day 1,687 of the Runpreneur challenge! As many of you know, I'm on a mission to cover the distance of a lap around the world - 40,075 kilometres - on consecutive days to raise £1,000,000 for children's causes. Your support in this endeavour truly makes a difference.
Today, however, it's not about my run, but about Leo's exciting venture into the world of work. At just 14, he's about to have his first part-time job interview at the café I co-own. And while I’ve ensured he receives no special treatment, I am wholeheartedly dedicated to preparing him for what's ahead.
The Learning Curve of a First Job
Leo’s venture into employment is his first taste of what the working world feels like. Navigating job applications, crafting a CV without qualifications or experience, and understanding interview protocols are all new to him. These steps are crucial in shaping his future career path.
We've worked together on his CV, emphasising his skills, strengths, hobbies, and how they translate into a working environment. It’s about showing how his team spirit from playing football can be a positive asset in a café setting. He's learning to articulate his inexperience in a manner that highlights his eagerness to grow and learn.
Preparing For the Interview
Understanding that the answers aren’t always straightforward or known is a lesson I'm imparting to him. It’s more about structuring responses that show potential and passion. For instance, explaining weaknesses not as drawbacks but as areas for growth can convert a potential negative into a persuasive positive.
First impressions count! From respectful communication to clear, articulate responses, these are life skills that extend beyond the workplace.
The Bigger Picture
This job is more than just a work opportunity; it's a stepping stone to understanding business, money management, and possibly entrepreneurship. I'm excited to see Leo absorb these lessons, which will undoubtedly set him ahead on his personal and professional journey.
Leo's willingness to learn is a blessing. It's a trait that will serve him well as he embarks on this new journey. As a parent, guiding him through real-life experiences is priceless, and I look forward to the lessons he’ll learn.
If you're a parent starting this journey with your child, support them. These are their first steps into a world full of possibilities.
Before I wrap up, if you're inspired by my mission of running around the world barefoot style, to raise money for children's causes, please support by subscribing, sharing, liking, and commenting on my journey.
