Brainstorming in the Rain: Finding Creativity in Unlikely Places
Hello everyone,
Today, I want to take you on an intriguing journey through a rather unusual yet productive moment in my life. It's not often that we find our bursts of creativity during what seems like the most inopportune times. However, if you find your most brilliant ideas sparking at the oddest moments, you are certainly not alone.
Today marked consecutive day 1649 of my Runpreneur diary, and it was anything but ordinary. Imagine this: it's nighttime, and I'm running in a torrential downpour, drenched from head to toe, with the cold wind as my constant companion. Despite these less-than-ideal conditions, I found myself in the middle of an incredibly creative and high-level business call.
The dialogue was filled with brainstorming, strategic discussions, and a plethora of ideas that seemed to burst forth with every raindrop hitting my face. It was almost surreal. How did I end up in this situation? Well, it all began with a simple routine—my youngest son has football training on Thursday evenings. It's the perfect time for me to fit in my run while he's occupied. Little did I know, this particular run would turn into a session of intense creativity.
Interestingly, I usually choose from a few activities during my runs: listening to an audiobook, running in silence to clear my mind, enjoying music, or catching up on calls. This time, I decided to dial into a call with a business partner. Despite the rain soaking through my clothes and the darkness enveloping my path, the call proved to be incredibly productive.
Every splash of rain seemed to jolt new ideas into my consciousness, focusing my thoughts and honing my brain’s creative process. It was an enlightening experience—one that I plan to replicate when possible. I would typically consider running in such conditions as undesirable. However, this unexpected and unusual situation fostered a fruitful creative environment, transforming my perspective on what I once thought were adverse conditions.
The key takeaway from today is that life can often present us with highly productive moments in the most bizarre circumstances. Embrace these moments, bottle their essence, and endeavour to recreate them in future scenarios. Planning my future calls to coincide with such runs now seems like an innovative idea—a strategy to tap into this newfound wellspring of creativity.
