There’s a specific kind of crispness to the air this time of year. It’s cool enough to keep your heart rate down, but the sun has just enough bite to make you feel like you’re being rewarded for getting out the door. As I hit the pavement for Day 1929 of my daily running streak, I couldn't help but feel a massive shift in energy compared to the grey, damp runs of the last few weeks.
The Trap of Good Conditions
What I realised during today's miles is that it is incredibly easy to be "on" when the sun is out. When the conditions are perfect, your discipline doesn't feel like discipline, it feels like a choice you’re happy to make.
But the lesson for me was deeper than just enjoying the weather. If I only ran on days like today, I’d never reach my goal. I am on a mission to run 40,075km, a full lap of the world, to raise £1M for children’s causes. That distance is unforgiving. It doesn't care if it’s a golden October afternoon or a freezing February morning.
Perspective matters because, while I am deeply grateful for the sun today, my commitment isn't to the weather; it’s to the 16.5-year vision.
Building Resilience Through Consistency
Running daily in barefoot-style footwear means I feel every change in the terrain and the temperature. Today, the ground was dry and fast. It felt effortless. However, the true strength of this mission is built on the days when the wind is in my face and my gear is soaked through.
Consistency is the ultimate "performance enhancer." When you remove the option to "skip" based on external factors like the weather, you gain a level of mental clarity that most people never experience. You stop negotiating with yourself. You just go.
The Bigger Picture: £1M for Children
Every step I take is anchored back to the mission. We are working to raise £1M to support children’s causes, providing help to those who don’t have the luxury of choosing their "conditions."
Today was a "high" day. The sun was out, the body felt good, and the pace was steady. I’ll take that win and bank it, knowing it provides the mental reserves for the tougher miles ahead. Whether it’s sunny or pouring, the streak continues, the distance closes, and the goal remains the same.
Stay focused on the long-term vision, regardless of today's weather.
