What if I told you that the secret to achieving your wildest goals – running 40,075km around the world, raising £1,000,000 for children’s causes, or just conquering your toughest day – often comes down to one mysterious force: innate motivation?
Hi, I’m Kevin, your Runpreneur, and today I’m diving into a raw, honest look at why some people seem to burn with limitless energy to achieve, while others struggle to find even a spark. If you’ve ever wondered why motivation sometimes feels effortless (and other times, impossible), stick with me – what I uncovered today with my under-14s football team just might change the way you see yourself forever.
It’s Day 1,742 of my daily Runpreneur challenge, and as always, every step I take is about something bigger – saving children’s lives through ultimate ultramarathon run vlogging. But lately, something off the pitch caught my attention. This morning, my team faced the league leaders. On paper, we were evenly matched – yet we lost 3-0.
And it wasn’t a technical failure. We held our own, no glaring mistakes, no tactical breakdowns. The truth? Their players just seemed to want it more. Nine out of their eleven won their individual battles, not because of luck, but because they played with more hunger, more urgency… more motivation. But why?
I coach three youth football teams – boys, girls, different ages – and week after week, I see the same thing. Some kids light up at the challenge; others hang back. I try incentives, adrenaline-boosting talks, and sometimes even a good dose of team spirit. Yet, some players just have this innate drive to push further.
Is it personality? Genetics? The influence of upbringing? No matter how much I prepare drills or pep talks, there’s a stubborn truth: motivation is deeply personal. I remember my own youth – I wasn’t the most talented, but I could always outwork the next lad. That drive to never let my team down pushed me harder than any external reward.
If you’re leading a team, running a business, or chasing any big, hairy goal (like 40,075km of barefoot run vlogging!), you know the frustration: sometimes, you can’t motivate others beyond their own inner limits. It can be tough to accept, but essential to understand.
Here’s the transformational mindset shift:
You CAN learn about your own motivations. You can nudge your drive with the right strategies – emotion, reward, team accountability. But some people simply have a higher natural motivation baseline. Don’t beat yourself up. Instead, focus on what fuels you – and make tweaks to keep that fire alive, day after day.
Every morning, I lace up, knowing it could be the difference between life and death for children who need our support. That’s my why, and it burns brighter than any medal ever could.
If you want to tap into unstoppable motivation, ask yourself:
Who are you fighting for?
What will you regret if you don’t reach your goal?
How can you make your mission bigger than yourself?
On my Road to Day 4,292, 40,075km, and £1,000,000 for children’s charities, I’ll face highs, lows, and every motivational mystery in between. But with your help – your shares, likes, comments, and support – every step helps save lives.
