Ever had one of those days when you feel utterly paralysed by a sudden disaster? Trust me, I’ve been there, quite literally today. Yet here I am, lacing up for another day in the Runpreneur Challenge hurtling towards Day 4,292, aiming for a staggering distance of 40,075km, and a £1,000,000 goal for children’s causes.
This journey isn’t just about running. It’s about resilience, learning to thrive when chaos strikes… and today, I’m sharing exactly how I turned a catastrophic curveball in my business into forward momentum. If you’re looking for a real, honest framework to bounce back (not just motivational jargon), you’re in the right place.
The Panic Spiral (And How I Escaped)
Let’s get brutally honest: I woke up to a mess in one of my businesses. The kind of mess that makes your stomach churn and clouds your mind with panic. Yes, even after 1,843 consecutive days of run vlogging, disasters still shake me.
At first, I lost grip. Emotion took over—I panicked, felt sick, and my rational brain… well, it took a brief holiday. But here’s where it turned around.
My Proven Formula: The OCHE Method
Over the years, I developed a simple yet remarkably effective process for crisis management. Let me introduce you to my trusty acronym: OCHE (O-C-H-E). It’s inspired by the ‘oche’ in darts—the line from which you aim for your best shot.
O – Opportunity
Every problem screams opportunity. Even amidst chaos, if you look for growth or new ways to improve, you instantly weaken the negative power a problem tries to hold over you.
C – Control
Focus only on what you can control. Don’t waste energy on what’s outside your influence. This rule alone will halve your stress levels.
H – Have a Plan
Once you know what you control, create a plan. Even a basic roadmap brings clarity and momentum.
E – Emotion
Remove it. Simple as that. Emotion clouds judgement—step back, breathe, and analyse with a clear mind.
Today’s Rollercoaster (And What You Can Steal from It)
Despite having my OCHE framework, today I floundered—momentarily. It’s easy to preach, harder to practise when life gets loud. I panicked at first but then gave myself space: a long shower to process, escape, and plan. (Surprising what a shower can solve!)
Yet, the real breakthrough came when procrastination threatened to derail my whole day. Instead of spiralling, I distracted myself intentionally with 30 minutes of TV. The world didn’t end. In fact, it cleared my mental fog, allowing me to re-engage and execute my plan for resolving the business issue.
ADHD, Disruption, and the Power of Mini Habits
Living with ADHD, disruptions can send me off course for hours, if not days. But today, I learned a vital lesson: step away, reset, come back. Not all distraction is the enemy—constructive diversion gives your mind the reboot it needs.
Progress, Not Perfection
Let’s talk about the “bad” coping mechanisms. Yes, I comfort-ate a bit—chocolate peanuts, if you’re nosy. But here’s the progress: I limited myself, pulled back the urge, and didn’t let a moment’s lapse ruin my whole mission.
I even took a much-needed siesta post-lunch to recharge, which allowed me to finish strong for the day rather than spiral into further fatigue and procrastination.
Why Reflection Matters—And Why You Should Try It
Vlogging and blogging daily isn’t just for my audience—it’s for me. Reflection is my tool to refine, learn, and pass on resilience to you. Every minor win against panic, procrastination, and comfort eating gets me (and hopefully you) that bit closer to our long-term goals.
Join the Mission—Every Step Counts
I’m sharing these messy, real moments because the Runpreneur journey is about more than miles or money. It’s about proving, day after day, that with the right mindset and habits, any obstacle can be overcome.
