The Beauty and Challenges of Crisp Morning Runs
Greetings, dedicated runners and fitness enthusiasts!
Today, I wanted to share my thoughts on early morning runs or those crisp morning workouts that make you feel alive and connected with nature. It’s consecutive day 1627 of my journey, and I felt it was the perfect moment to dive into why many of us find solace in these serene morning jogs.
Firstly, if you’re new here, welcome! For those who have been following along, you know my mission: saving the lives of children by attempting the ultimate ultramarathon of run vlogging on consecutive days, covering a distance equivalent to a lap around the world, barefoot. Now, let’s get started.
Embracing the Early Morning Run
So why did I choose this topic today? Quite self-explanatory—I’m running early this morning, which is something I don't often do. It's 8 AM, and while that may seem late for some, it feels early to me, at least in terms of running. Out here, on this stunning crisp autumnal-turned-winter morning, I've become reacquainted with a scene that I don't experience regularly. Mist on the fields, the sun burning through, and a chilly 2 degrees centigrade atmosphere—it's stunningly tranquil.
My reason for being out, so early, today is due to a packed schedule, filled with meetings and an evening networking event. With no other time suitable to run, I had no alternative but to lace up early. This necessity got me pondering—why do people prefer early morning runs? What drives them?
Why People Love Morning Runs
From my observations and personal insights, many people see these early morning rituals as productivity boosters. There’s something incredibly revitalising about starting your day with a run. The tranquillity, the morning mist, the sight of dew on the grass—it all acts as a serene wake-up call, setting a positive tone for the day.
I can understand why some individuals find this invigorating and motivating. Waking up to the beauty of nature, feeling the cold air hit your face, and witnessing the sunrise can indeed be a massive productivity booster. From an aesthetic and emotional perspective, it’s calming, it’s peaceful, and it’s incredibly rewarding.
Running Later in the Day
However, for me, morning runs are still a challenge. As I run significantly slower than my usual pace, my body feels like it’s in a grind, struggling to operate at full capacity. It’s a stark contrast to my preferred late afternoon or early evening runs. Those times allow me to unwind from the day’s stresses, releasing the pent-up pressure and enjoying a rhythm my body is accustomed to.
This brings me to an essential point—timing your exercise routine is a personal choice. What works wonders for one person may not for another. We all operate differently, with unique biological prime times that dictate our physical and mental peak performance periods.
Finding Your Prime Time
Whether it's the 5 AM club or an evening de-stress session, the secret lies in recognising your personal ebbs and flows of energy throughout the day. Identify activities that align with your high and low energy times, and tailor your routine accordingly. For some, early morning runs might be a keystone habit driving productivity. For others, like me, evening runs might serve as a vital outlet for stress and improved performance.
Conclusion
Today’s crisp morning run reminded me of the beauty and tranquillity that nature offers, even if it’s not my preferred time for exercising. Occasional morning runs can be refreshing, calming, and a lovely break from routine. Nevertheless, I find more satisfaction and benefits from my usual running times.
Remember, it’s all about finding what works best for you. So, whether you’re a morning person or someone who thrives later in the day, embrace the time that suits you and enjoy the myriad benefits running has to offer.
