Running After A Storm

Discover why running after a storm is my favourite time to hit the road. Find out how post-storm conditions can rejuvenate your run and make even the hottest days refreshing.

There’s a unique magic to running after a storm that makes it, hands down, one of my favourite times to head out. If you’re a regular runner, you’ll know that UK summers have become increasingly hot and humid in recent years thanks, climate change! Often, those hot days are followed finally by a big storm, and that’s where the real fun begins for runners like me.

After a stretch of 28 to 32 degrees centigrade and stifling humidity, a storm sweeps through and everything changes. The humidity drops, and although the temperatures stay fairly warm, the air feels cool and fresh. Honestly, it’s like shedding a heavy, invisible cloak you didn’t realise you were wearing.

Running post-storm is invigorating. It’s a sweet spot when you’re no longer battling oppressive humidity, but you’re still enjoying warm conditions. Personally, it feels as refreshing as stepping into a shower after feeling truly grimy. The air is cleaner, my energy lifts, and my whole run just feels lighter and happier.

If you’ve never tried timing your run just after a downpour or thunderstorm, I can’t recommend it enough. Keep an eye on those weather patterns, and the next time you see a storm roll through after a spell of heat, lace up and get out there. I bet you’ll find yourself craving that fresh, clean air again and again.

And if my thoughts resonate with you, or you want to support my mission to save children’s lives through my ultimate ultramarathon of consecutive barefoot run vlogging, do drop a comment, give this a share, and subscribe. The more people we reach, the more impact we can make.

Stay positive, stay happy and see you out there after the next storm.
