Ever wondered what it’s like to tackle a 10K run when the sun is blazing and the thermometer hits 32 degrees centigrade? Think it’s just a sweaty jog? Think again. This is a test of endurance, grit, and self-belief… especially when your mission is bigger than just a medal at the finish line.
I’m Kevin Brittain, and every stride I take is part of the Runpreneur Challenge—an epic quest now heading for day 4,292, with a distance target of 40,075km and a fundraising goal of £1,000,000 to transform children’s lives. Today’s lesson? How to survive—and thrive—when the heat is turned all the way up.
Why I Pushed Through the Heat (And Why You Might Need To As Well)
Let’s be perfectly honest: running in 32°C is NOT recommended, but sometimes, the challenge isn’t optional. I’ve committed to vlogging my run every single day, and on days like this it’s about more than just personal fitness. It’s about raising funds and awareness for children who need our help the most.
So why did I do it? Simple—because I had to. Not only for the challenge, but because I’m pacing the 45-minute marker at my local community 10K run (the “10 Gallop”), which is half off-road, half on. It’s a tough route at the best of times, but today was next level. No hydration on the course, relentless heat, and a pace to keep.
Brutal Truths About Running at 32°C: Lessons You Can’t Ignore
Here’s the reality: heat like this is a different beast. I managed to finish my training run in 44 and a half minutes—happy days for my prep, but the lessons were clear:
Hydration is Everything. You need to be fully hydrated BEFORE you even set out. No water stations? Make sure you’ve got fluids available the moment you finish. Don’t mess around with this.
Monitor Your Heart Rate Like Your Life Depends On It. In heat, your heart rate will spike. If you’re new to this, it’s essential you keep an eye on your watch. High readings can mean you’re close to overheating or serious dehydration.
Listen to Your Body—And Don’t Be a Hero. If it feels wrong, slow down. Heat exhaustion sneaks up and can take down even the best runners if you’re not careful.
Find Your Rhythm & Control Your Breathing. It’s not just about speed but finding a pattern you can stick to. Solid breathing keeps you going when everything else tries to stop you.
Running for More Than a Medallion: The Runpreneur Mission
I do this every day not just for the challenge but for the bigger goal—raising £1M for children’s causes. Every run, every blog, every vlog is a step towards making a real difference. The more you support, share, like, and interact, the more visibility we get, and the more lives we can change.
