Ever hated the dark, wet slog of a winter evening? Good. Because there’s an insane, unstoppable wave of motivation coming your way—and it could transform your mindset, your miles, and the lives of thousands of children.
I’m Kevin Brittain, the barefoot Runpreneur, and today I want to share something that hits every British runner right in the soul: the moment our clocks spring forward every year. Sounds trivial? Not for those of us pounding the pavements every single day—especially not on the journey I’m on: to conquer Day 4,292+ of the Runpreneur Challenge, cover 40,075km (yes, that’s the circumference of the globe!), and raise £1,000,000 for children’s causes.
Why Losing an Hour Might Be the Best Gift You Get as a Runner
Let’s break it down. Every spring in the UK, we “lose” an hour, but let’s be honest, what we’re really gaining is daylight. For evening or late-afternoon runners like myself, this shift is everything. Suddenly, we swap our cold, lonely head torch runs for golden evenings, electric energy, and vibrant landscapes. A few weeks back? Same time of day, but it was pitch black, biting cold, and the start of every run felt like an epic battle between motivation and misery.
Spring Isn’t Just for Flowers—It’s for Your Soul
Here’s what I’ve learnt pounding the fields and streets: the seasons change more than the weather. They change your spirit. When you see the crops growing, trees budding, and wildlife returning, you can’t help but feel uplifted. Running daily, as I chase my five-year streak, I’ve learnt that yes—sometimes the thought of a run is worse than the reality. Especially in those grim, winter months. But suddenly, with spring, the simple act of tying your laces fills you with anticipation, not dread.
Psychology Over Reality—And Why It Matters for All of Us
Let’s be honest: the mind game of running is bigger than any physical challenge. I’ve had magical, gritty winter runs in the pouring rain and the cold, and absolutely miserable ones on stunning, sunny evenings. The “perfect conditions” aren’t always what you think. But when the seasons turn, and nature bursts back to life, your mindset can’t help but follow suit.
This isn’t just about running. The same principle applies to every tough patch in life. When the metaphorical clocks spring forward, grab that positivity and run with it—literally or figuratively. Use those extra hours of daylight to your advantage.

Every day, I’m out here, pushing further not only for myself but for children whose lives depend on what we raise together. Supporting my challenge means you’re not just part of my journey—you’re changing the world for kids who desperately need hope and help.
