Why Most Entrepreneurs Fail at Marketing (And What You Can Do About It)

I’ll be blunt: I’m not a natural-born marketer. My strengths? Systems, detail, process—your classic analytical introvert. I’m alright with sales, sure, but put me in front of a camera (outside this running vlog), or ask me to craft a viral social ad, and I’ll probably duck behind the nearest tree. Sound familiar?

It’s the same storey for most entrepreneurs I see. You’ve got hustle, you’re solving big problems, but marketing? That’s an entirely different beast—one that can eat up your budget, your time, and frankly, your confidence.

But here’s what I do know: Sales is a numbers game. And if your leads are drying up, or you simply can’t justify the fees charged by those brilliant (and eye-waveringly expensive) agencies, you need a marketing solution built on hustle, not hype.

The Strategy That Changed Everything: The “Dream 100” Marketing Hustle

I first learnt this from the legend Russell Brunson (he co-founded ClickFunnels, kind of the godfather of modern marketing funnels). But don’t stop reading—because this is something anyone can do. The “Dream 100” process is both simple and devastatingly effective.

Here’s the big idea: Make a list of the 100 most perfect partnerships or collaboration opportunities for your business. Think: Who already has access to your dream audience? Where do your customers hang out? Which brands offer services that complement yours?

For my meal prep business, that means farm shops, pubs, even local events—anywhere the health-conscious, convenience-seeking crowd might be. For you, it could be accountants, solicitors, business forums, product wholesalers—anyone who, by connecting with or partnering up, could open doors to hundreds or thousands of the right people.

How I’m Actually Using This Hustle—And How You Can Too

Let’s get practical. We’re not talking theory here—this is what my team and I are rolling out right now:

  • Brainstorm your Dream 100: List the individuals, brands, venues—anyone—who’d make the perfect collaboration.

  • Map your outreach: Combine social media, emails, even “old-school” calls if it fits.

  • Automate with AI (if you can): AI can build the messaging, manage the follow-ups, and help you scale your reach—a game-changer for any solo entrepreneur or cash-strapped startup.

  • Iterate constantly: Don’t just set-and-forget. Tweak, test, and measure results. If something’s not converting, adjust the offer or angle.

Remember: You only need one winner. If just one partnership hits, it can transform your business overnight.

Real World, Real Results—Why THIS Matters to You

Look, maybe you’re bootstrapping, or maybe you just don’t fancy dumping thousands into ads you can’t guarantee. Maybe, like me, marketing isn’t your strong suit. That’s alright—because the hustle is learnable.

This isn’t about throwing money at the wall and hoping. It’s about showing up, every day, just like I do with every kilometre—putting in the reps, reaching out, and stacking the odds in your favour through effort and persistence.

If you want to stand for something bigger, if you’re tired of watching opportunity pass you by because you’re “not a marketer”, let the numbers, not the excuses, do the work.
