So, do you believe in fate? This question is close to my heart, mainly due to some recent experiences that have reinforced my belief in it. To me, fate involves those moments where certain events unfold in ways that feel beyond our control, leading to specific, often surprising outcomes.
My first recent brush with fate occurred during a family game night. My children and I were playing "Cash Flow," the renowned board game from "Rich Dad, Poor Dad." My son, who is 12 and inching closer to the teenage years, was having a tough run. He kept lamenting his "bad luck" as he landed on unfavorable squares. I tried to explain to him that life often mirrors this game—things don't always go our way.
It was an interesting scenario: my son was frustrated because he felt he was losing, while I was in second place, close to achieving the game's ultimate goal. I ended up landing on an investment square involving a 50/50 chance for success in a Russian oil venture. Just before rolling the dice, my son grumbled that I would surely get lucky, as his luck seemed perpetually poor. I told him that fate, or karma, has a way of responding to negativity. I was almost calling my own bluff when I said, "With that attitude, fate might just ensure that I succeed."
And guess what? I rolled a four, securing my victory. It was a stark reminder that a positive outlook can influence outcomes in remarkable ways. This incident certainly deepened my belief in fate and the power of karma.
The second encounter with fate was even more surreal. Recently, I shared my experience with a medium who connected me to my late Chinese grandma and English nan. I was skeptical but curious. During that session, the medium mentioned something about my nan and a rose, a detail I couldn't immediately identify with.
Fast forward to today, I was doing some DIY around the house and searching for a tape measure. In the process, I opened a drawer containing my nan's keepsakes. To my astonishment, I found a brooch with a crystal-clear white rose on it—a possession I didn't even remember owning. The timing felt too precise to dismiss as mere coincidence. It felt as though I was meant to discover that brooch, reinforcing my belief in an external, guiding force.
So, what are my learnings from these experiences? Firstly, I now believe more than ever that an external force—call it fate, call it karma—plays a role in our lives. Whether it's teaching my children about the importance of attitude or unexpectedly discovering a sentimental keepsake, these events make me believe that there's more to life than mere happenstance.
I'm not saying that I've become a full-fledged believer in mediums or that fate dictates every aspect of our lives. But these experiences have certainly made me pause and reflect. They add another layer of meaning to life's unfolding story, one that I'm eager to explore further.
