Today, I find myself running beside the iconic Blackpool Tower, reflecting on some of the most amazing places this running streak has taken me. If you're a fellow streak runner, you'll know life has a way of sending you on incredible journeys, and the miles just add up as you go.
Running is my daily anchor, but it’s also my ticket to seeing the world in a completely unique light. Blackpool, with its unmistakable tower and lively Pleasure Beach, is just the latest stop. I’ve visited here before as a child, and yes, it’s every bit the classic, sometimes-tacky British seaside town you expect, but that’s part of its charm. The thrill of seeing the rollercoaster what we used to call the Pepsi Max amid the sea air hits differently when you’re passing it on foot during a run.
Of course, Blackpool is just one pin on my ever-growing world map of runs. Over the last five and a quarter years, running every single day, I’ve managed to complete runs in at least 17 different countries. Asia, Europe, even the buzzing streets of New York in the US all have left their mark. Whether it’s humid roads in Vietnam, the sunlit routes of Cyprus, or cold mornings in Scotland, each spot brings its own flavour and memories.
Closer to home, my routine often takes me along familiar running routes in Cambridgeshire, and honestly, those are just as special. Looking back through my Strava map which logs every single run I get a real sense of pride and gratitude. It’s a visual reminder of the journey so far, and all the places I dream of running next.
Running isn’t always easy believe me, there are days when the last thing I want is to lace up and head out. But when I reflect on what I’ve achieved, from the epic distances (London to Sydney, anyone?) to the beautiful places I’ve discovered, I wouldn’t trade it for anything.
So if you’re contemplating a running streak yourself, know that it’s not only about the physical challenge. It’s a powerful journey in self-discovery, resilience, and gratitude. Embrace the tough days as much as the amazing ones. Your footsteps could take you to places and to parts of yourself you never imagined.
