Have you ever reached the end of your day wondering, “Where did my productivity go?” Trust me, I’ve been there—more times than I care to admit. But what if I told you there’s a simple shift you can make today that can turn even your worst, most unproductive days into leaps forward in your business and life? This is not theory—it’s exactly what’s helped me run every single day for almost 2,000 days, build my businesses, and fuel my mission to run 40,075km and raise £1,000,000 for children’s causes.
If you’re tired of procrastination robbing your progress, read on—this is the diary entry you can’t afford to skip.
Unlocking Your Biological Prime Time: The Secret to Outrunning Procrastination
Today’s post is super-personal—I want to let you in on the exact method that’s unlocked new levels of achievement in my businesses AND kept me sane while juggling sales calls, leadership, and the daily grind of entrepreneurship (all while running barefoot around the world to save children’s lives!). It’s not a hack you’ll find in every self-help book. It’s custom-built for people like us who want to squeeze every drop out of the day—especially if you, like me, sometimes struggle with distractions, ADHD, or just feeling “off”.
The Truth About Unproductive Days
Let’s be brutally honest: unproductive days will happen, often for no apparent reason. In my own journey, especially with ADHD, I’ve found myself stuck—sometimes paralysed—when plans don’t go perfectly. One missed sales call, one unexpected disruption, and suddenly the hours slip away. Sound familiar?
But here’s the game-changer: I stopped fighting my natural ebbs and flows, and started working with them.
Introducing “Biological Prime Time”
I first learnt about this concept from Dan Martell’s “Buy Back Your Time”. The principle is simple: everyone has natural peaks and troughs of energy each day. If you can identify your peak hours—what I like to call your “biological prime time”—and ruthlessly focus those on your highest-impact work, you flip the odds. You turn would-be write-off days into game-changing wins.
My Own Breakthrough (And How You Can Replicate It)
For me, the hours between 9–11am are like digital rocket fuel—I’m at my peak; focused, clear and decisive. But try booking me for a sales call after lunch? Disaster! My energy crashes and I end up frustrated.
So here’s what I did:
I ring-fenced my best hours: No sales calls, no meetings—just deep, impactful work.
Low energy? Switch to interactive tasks: I moved all sales calls and social interactions to my energy “lull” in the afternoons, which actually helped lift me when I need it most.
Ruthless routine: No more letting random bookings ruin my flow. If it’s not booked in the right slot, it’s not happening.
This tweak alone stopped my frequent unproductive days in their tracks. On days when things still don’t go to plan (because let’s be real—it happens), I’ve already locked in my “win” by using my prime time for critical work.
Why This Matters—And How It Compounds
Small changes, done daily, have massive impacts over time. When you compound productive days—especially days that would have been wasted—the results are huge.
This mindset and system are what have allowed me to keep running daily, build meaningful businesses, and drive towards my mammoth goal: surpassing day 4,292 of the Runpreneur Challenge, covering 40,075km, and raising £1,000,000 to save children’s lives.
Ready to Try It?
Here’s what you need to do:
Track your energy for ONE week: Note when you feel most alert and motivated. That’s your “prime time”.
Block those hours for high-impact work: Don’t let interruptions in.
Use lull periods for routine/interactive tasks: Sales calls, meetings, admin.
Reflect and tweak: Over time, you’ll refine this for even bigger gains.
