My Secrets to Running With a Cold—And NOT Crashing
I live and breathe my running streak: day in, day out, past 1,000 days straight. So, when a cold hits, here’s how I keep the miles coming (and the fundraising on track):
1. Lower my Expectations—FAST!
A cold is a performance killer. If you think you’re at 100%, think again. Realistically, expect a 10-25% drop in your output. I always slash my goals by at least a quarter on these tough days—no heroics, just discipline and hustle. The win is just showing up.
2. Listen to my Body Like Never Before
Colds aren’t just a stuffy nose—they mess with your breathing, your throat, and your headspace. If the warning lights start flashing—wheezing, real fatigue, heavy breathing—I dial it back even more. There’s no courage in collapse. Recovery runs are king: slow, steady, focused.
3. Fuel & Hydrate More Than I Think
Battling illness AND burning calories? Double whammy for your immune system. Hydration and energy intake are non-negotiable. I fuel up like I’m prepping for a marathon, even if it’s just a gentle 5k. Never, ever run on empty when you’re run down.
Why I Push On—And Why YOU Should Care 🚀
This isn’t about bravado. Every run, each cold-weather slog, is for something bigger—saving children’s lives. The Runpreneur Challenge isn’t just an ego project; it’s a lifeline, aiming to smash beyond 4,292 days and raise a million pounds for those who need it most.
Are you willing to do what it takes? I am. Not just for the streak, but for the mission.
